One night only

These photographs are from a one evening assignment that I did for the Telegraph magazine in 1994 on unlicensed boxing (which is not illegal in the UK). I remember that it was a short drive to someplace on the outskirts of London, and that I was looking forward to this assignment since, as a child, I wanted to be a boxer. I seem to remember that the arena was not very big and relatively crowded. I had access to the dressing room and I was also able to walk around amongst the spectators and take pictures. I was even able to take photos inside the ring before the fight. I remember being struck visually by some of the couples and also by the excitement of the crowd who came to enjoy a piece of the action as they were watching the violence in the ring. I noticed that there was an ambulance waiting outside just in case...
